How to Paint a Distressed Mirror Frame

A distressed mirror frame adds a touch of rustic charm to any room. It's a great way to update an old mirror or to give a new one a more vintage look. Distressing a mirror frame is actually quite easy to do, and it only requires a few basic supplies. Here's how to do it:

What You'll Need:

  • Mirror frame
  • Sandpaper or sanding block
  • Primer
  • Paint
  • Clear sealer (optional)
  • Rag or cheesecloth
  • Water
  • Brush

Instructions:

  1. Remove the mirror from the frame. This will make it easier to paint the frame and prevent paint from getting on the mirror.
  2. Sand the frame. This will create a rough surface which will help the paint adhere better and create a distressed look.
  3. Prime the frame. Primer is important to help the paint adhere and to prevent the original finish from bleeding through.
  4. Paint the frame. Choose a color that will complement the mirror and the surrounding décor.
  5. Distress the frame. Once the paint has dried, you can start distressing the frame. To do this, use sandpaper or a sanding block to sand away the paint in certain areas. You can also use a rag or cheesecloth dipped in water to create a more subtle distressed look.
  6. Seal the frame (optional). If you want the distressed finish to last longer, you can seal it with a clear sealer.

Tips:

  • Use different grades of sandpaper to create different levels of distress.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different techniques to create a unique look.
